Oh dear - I have OPIE, not GPE, so the configuration utilities are

This should be a dotted quad IP address, as with address, netmask etc.
Can anyone shed any light as to why it has 'hp' here?

For managed mode, this would be the ESSID of the router.
The good news is that it looks like your wlan0 device (i.e. the internal
wireless device) is up and running okay, but you need to manually set
the ESSID to associate to, and possibly the IP address, netmask and
default route, if it doesn't pick this up by DHCP.
Someone else might be better off answering this one, as I don't use GPE.
