OK, I figured out what I was doing wrong. :) Physical RAM starts at 0xC0000000, and the bootldr has a megabyte or so of virtual memory mapped, about 31 MB or so into DRAM. Uploading a 32 MB image overwrote the bootldr. I was able to upload it in two chunks: load flash 0x00040000 load flash 0x1000000 I needed to upload my root image because something happened that threw off the bootldr's jffs2 module (I guess). It was seeing about an extra kilobyte or so in the zImage that wasn't really there (I checked with "md5sum file"). Uploading the image to another machine, mounting it and syncing it fixed things.
