Can't install bootldr-pxa-2.20.4 on HP5550

Hi,

Although everything seemed to go well, I still have the old bootloader.
Here are some details :

Using ActiveSync, I copied BootBlaster3900-2.6.exe and
bootldr-pxa-2.20.4.bin.gz (from [1]) to the iPaq, ran the thing (made the
backups, programmed the bootloader and verified it went well) and reset:
the HP bootloader is still there. However, I cannot find my files
(BootBlaster3900-2.6.exe, bootldr-pxa-2.20.4.bin.gz and the backup images
are gone (!)) and the PocketPC system plays its introduction steps again.

One day, I even thought I bricked my iPaq: on reset, HP bootloader was
starting, its progress bar was... progressing, but it would freeze after
it the progress bar was full. Letting the iPaq fully discharge "fixed" the
problem.

Any ideas of why it "silently fails"? BootBlaster needs a gzipped image,
right? (bootldr-pxa-2.20.4.bin or bootldr-pxa-2.20.4.bin.gz?)
