Can not find GLIBC_2.2

My system currently has libc5 and I wanted to add glibc-2.2.
I have compiled glibc-2.2 with prefix=/usr/lib/glibc-2.2.
I added the dir to ld.so.conf and run ldconfig.

When I execute a program like 'ls' I get an error message that says
GLIBC_2.2 not found.

What is GLIBC_2.2 and how did I miss it or where do I get it?
