Archive size not greater than 1024 MB?

Hello!

I am unable to create GNU tar (1.13.25) archives greater than 1024 MB. My 
Linux is able to do that (e.g. using something like: dd if=/dev/zero 
of=/tmp/test bs=1000000 count=2000). How can I make tar to create this 
big-sized archives?
