Subject: Is this possible? - msg#00082

So I recently started using Screen within the Ratpoison window
manager...and I'm curious: is there a way to redirect Screen's
Activity message and bell message, by say somehow using a command when
setting what they are, into ratpoison? The way to echo text in
Ratpoison's message bar is the command "ratpoison -c 'echo <message>.'"
So basically my question is whether there's a way to somehow take the
output for activity or bell messages, which would normally appear in
screen's message bar/statusline, and redirect it into Ratpoison? Any
info would be much appreciated.

Re: ESC key slowness

You might try Esc-\ as an alternative, I suspect that would avoid screen waiting for an escape sequence that's never coming. Or if you were using the public domain korn shell (pdksh) you can configure it it to do TAB completion. Of course if this were to cause you to go out and get a new shell, bash and zsh have much more powerful completion mechanisms anyway. I don't like bash, but zsh absolutely rules!

Re: splitting window into regions

Tip, use an outer screen with a different escape char to do the vertical split. I use another *unpatched* screen binary to run my inner screens with another escape char of course. Then you have two independent multiwindow screens on each side of your hopefully large monitor. When you attach or (auto)reattach your screens on loggin in at different locations, you do so only on the outer screen and not the nested ones. Eric

I got rxvt-unicode from CVS and applied this patch to it: http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~deryni/urxvt-urgent.diff It didn't apply cleanly so I had to read the patch, get a general idea, and then manually patch it myself. In the end, for my urxvt, turning urgent off/on is not an option -- it's always on, which is fine for me. Further, I don't know if you will even need to apply this patch, since I compiled mine in Feb 2006, and I don't know if the patch has been incorporated into CVS. It hasn't been incorporated into rxvt-unicode CVS, largely because I have never submitted a clean version to the author. I could probably get it accepted if I did. But recent cvs versions ran into problems with the bitmasks used for options and my knowledge of them isn't the best so I hacked around it. Until I find the right answer I can't submit it. -Etan P.S. If anyone wants the hacked patch for up-to-date cvs, I can give it to them, or just post it up on top of the old one (which might be rather up-to-date I forget).

How is it not satisfactory? It is not switched on by default.
