As far as I can tell, using a recent version of ncurses, xterm, and screen (all with appropriate terminfo definitions) everything works fine, nikolai (who thinks bitlbee is a lot better than centericq) -- Nikolai Weibull: now available free of charge at http://bitwi.se/!
