Subject: Re: MacOS X 10.3.9 build but load-save.m test failure

I see the same problem here. Is this a byte order problem? I'm not
sure, and I don't understand this code well enough to quickly debug
it. Perhaps David will have some clues?

It does seem to be a little/big endiannes problem...

I get octave-2.9.2 compiled on Sparc/Solaris 8 with gcc-343 and I am getting two
failures on make check:

FAIL: octave.test/io/load-save.m
FAIL: octave.test/linalg/expm-2.m
# of unexpected failures 2

Octave Output:
error: load: trouble reading binary file `binary.mat'
error: evaluating for command near line 77, column 5
error: evaluating if command near line 67, column 3
error: called from `testls'
error: near line 183 of file `./octave.test/io/load-save.m'
child process exited abnormally
FAIL: octave.test/io/load-save.m
EXEC: ../src/octave -f -q -p .:../src//:./../scripts// ./octave.test/io/puts-1.m

........

EXEC: ../src/octave -f -q -p .:../src//:./../scripts//
./octave.test/linalg/eig-5.m

Octave Output:
error: eig: argument must be a square matrix
error: near line 1 of file `./octave.test/linalg/eig-5.m'
child process exited abnormally
PASS: octave.test/linalg/eig-5.m
EXEC: ../src/octave -f -q -p .:../src//:./../scripts//
./octave.test/linalg/expm-1.m

Octave Output:
ans = 1
PASS: octave.test/linalg/expm-1.m
EXEC: ../src/octave -f -q -p .:../src//:./../scripts//
./octave.test/linalg/expm-2.m

Octave Output:
ans = 0
FAIL: octave.test/linalg/expm-2.m

(I really baffled by this one.)
