I said "8k" only so that it'd be more than plenty. Typically, inodes are 256 bytes or less. I think SGI has a filesystem option where you can have 512-byte inodes. And one of the early Unix implementations had fairly-large in-inode files: Files of less than 493 bytes are stored directly in the corresponding inode. -- section 3.1 of: W. A. Felton, G. L.
