RE: How to find Gnome version: msg#00027gnome.os.redhat
I usually use rpm -q gnome-<package name> and it outputs the version as well. I upgraded from Redhat 8.0 to Redhat 9.0 and help says that it is help for Gnome 2.0. But this thread suggests that it is 2.2. Also, would appreciate help in being directed to the appropriate mailing list for Redhat beginners. Searching some newsgroups I found a command "gnome-save-session --kill" that is used to close the gnome session. I used that command but it freezed. Doing a gnome-save-session --kill --disable-sound it worked perfectly so I figured that there was something wrong with the sound configuration. I opened Soundcard detection and noticed that the "Enable sound daemon" checkbox was off, and I selected it. Now logout works perfectly. I must say i'm a bit amazed because I can't see a direct relation between both. Still have one problem though, when i logout and try to login with another user (even the same user) Gnome hangs when displaying the splash screen, before any completed tasks show up (like launching the window manager). My video card is Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 and i'm using their latest drivers (1.0-4363).
