File association?

Hello all, Not sure if this is the place, but I'll give it a shot. I recently added a launcher to my desktop. A simple link to a text file. I wanted to be able to open it up with emacs, but now all my desktop icons (links) open up with emacs. What gives? I am running redhat 8 with gnome 2. Any help is appreciated.
