I'm going to give you the easiest way: Use Ubuntu
(http://www.ubuntu.com/). It is essentially Debian, only with a better
maintenance, and the Monodevelop install is rather easy.

I myself am in Gentoo, and the installation of Monodevelop is as easy as
any other package but the initial learning curve to get into the
distribution is a lot steeper than Ubuntu's.
