Maybe nightly snapshots would solve this problem - once the automation is 
in place, there's no effort required by the developers and users can get 
almost-bleeding-edge code without depending on CVS.

Is the Gnome CVS more reliable? Maybe moving to theirs would be a better 
long-term solution.
