Aliases are associated to a specific buddy on a specifc account
intentionally. There is no good way to be sure that LSchiere (on
freenode irc) LSchiere (on gnome's irc server), LSchiere (aim), LSchiere
(yahoo) and LSchiere (silc) are all the same real life person and thus
should have that alias. in fact we have seen a specific instance where
ewarmenhoven (aim) and ewarmenhoven (yahoo) are _not_.

I believe we do allow you to set an alias on a contact however, since
you have grouped that and identified it as a single person
