Hello herman

Many thank for your answer.

Sorry of my question is stupide, but I am not a developper, just a computer addict.. :)

As you suggest me I look to gaim port page.
I found this:

Where are my Gaim settings saved? - As of 0.69, shfolder.dll is used to determine the location for a user's app data. On Windows ME this will be something like "C:\WINDOWS\Profiles\username" and on Win 2k/XP "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data". This can be overridden by setting the HOME environmental variable.

I looked for this shfolder.dll and edit it. But i didn't saw anything regarding where my gaim's setting are save by defaullt. I just saw stuff about languages.

So could you explain me again witch afile I have to modify because for the moment I don't understand anything.
In fact i don't know which dll I must put on my usb key, and how to change the HOME environmental variable.

Thanks again

GG

Hello Lee & Others,

Sorry for the long delay, but it's not easy to finda computer without
Gaim installed (I installed it to all my friends's computer ).

But now I have a laptop to make my test.

With your method Lee, it work almost. Now I don't have anymore errors
message because missing DLL. I have an other problem: Gaim start but
it ask me to enter an account name and a password. In fact it didn't
remenber all my ICQ, Yahoo, Jabber, MSN... that I have on my computer. It
should connect itself to all my accounts but it dont't.

I put the ".gaim" folder from my desktop computer to my laptop in :
c:\Documents and Settings\GG\Application Data\. And now on my laptop,
when I launch Gaim, it start all my accounts like on my desktop
computer, it works.

It seem that one or more files contains all my accounts: account.xml.
I put this file in /gaim directory, but it don't work.
Is it a problem of relative path? Do I have to edith a file and change
something?

You need to set the HOME env variable to overide the default settings
location (see the windows port page). Starting with the next release 1.1.0
you will need to use GAIMHOME instead.

Thanks again for your help.

Enclosed, a screenshot of my current /gaim folder.

Regards,

GG

Looking at your jpg, I see the GTK directory. Instead of that, you
should have the etc, lib and share directories from "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Gtk\2.0". In the end it should look like this:

etc\
icons\
locale\
lib\
pixmaps\
plugins\
share\
smileys\
sounds\
gaim.exe
gaim.dll
[remaining gaim packaged files]
asprintf.dll
charset.dll
freetype6.dll
gspawn-win32-helper.exe
iconv.dll
[remaining 'gtk\2.0\bin\*' files]

Worth noting that copying gaim-uninst.exe isn't required and would
likely fail miserably when run, so it's presence on the key only takes
up precious bytes. I'd also suggest turning off all the logging options,
as it could easily fill up a small key.

From where you're at in the screen shot, remove the "Z:\Gaim\GTK"
directory, as well as "Z:\Gaim\gaim-uninst.exe". Copy "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin\*.exe" to "Z:\Gaim". Follow that by
copying "C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\etc", "C:\Program
Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\lib", and "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\GTK\2.0\share" to "Z:\Gaim".

Thanks Lee for your explanation.
I tried this week end and it didn't works; when I launch gaim.exe, I
have a Windows errore message : "Fatal error, unexpected error"

I enclose in this mail a screenshot of all the gaim's file i put in my
USB Key. May be I made a mystake, maybe I forgot something?

Start off by installing Gaim on your personal computer; make certain

to

use the Gaim installer that includes GTK. Copy the entire Gaim folder
("C:\Program Files\Gaim" by default) to your storage media (we"ll

call

it "Z:\Gaim"). Next, copy all the files from the GTK\bin directory
("C:\Program Files\Common Files\GTK\2.0\bin\*.[exe|dll]") to the same
folder as the gaim.exe file ("Z:\Gaim", again). Then, copy the
remaining
GTK directories to the USB Gaim ("Z:\Gaim") folder. Now, as it is,

you

should be able to run Gaim anywhere. Your preferrences and accounts
should be stored on the USB key.
