XUL uses javascript for all events and whatnot, so you'd need to have 
libgaim, and i think you'd have to make a javascriptable XIDL interface 
in C++ to wrap the different libgaim objects (GaimConnection, 
GaimAccount, etc.).  it's doable, but might be a bit of a pain.
