R: Tapping into GeoTools Projection Code

Remember that spatial enabled RDBMS (like PostGIS or Oracle)

are already capable of doing projection, so one solution

is to pass a SRID code as a parameter to a Datastore connection

and let the Datastore driver do the conversion on the fly.

This makes me think that I can do it already with no modification

to the core, but parameters are per-connection and not

per-table (or per-layer) so this is a little limiting...

Anyway, as far as Datastores go, I think they may do a better work

(and faster) than any other mechanism we may invent.

Jody has offered to help if there is interest in prefecting/fixing the
code that Edgar wrote for Coordinate Projection using the GeoTools
library.

I'd take this on myself but I have already made a lot of other commitments.

If we have any takers I will let Jody know. This sounds like a great
opportunity to get projection support into OpenJUMP.
