tiger 108th glitch?

Just following up on the problems I had converting
tiger 2000/108th GA files using ogr2ogr.

The tiger author, I believe, said he didn't get an
error message using current ogr2ogr, but wasn't
clear if 'current' meant stable or a cvs snapshot.

I'm willing to try and help on this, just need some
clues.  Are there any hidden command line parameters
to turn on a debugging level of output?  Or point
me to one or two source code files to play with
where the problem might be, etc.
