Try to boot with verbose kernel messages enabled.

Edit the grub menu entry, delete the splashimage,
foreground and background lines. And remove the
console=graphics kernel option. Add the verbose
kernel messages "-v" option at the end of the
kernel$ boot line.  Boot the modified entry.


What are the last few lines on the console before
it hangs?
