Yes my issue was with starting with .otf cubic fonts.

Yes and I still hadn't grasped that .ttfs were quadratic only.

No, my problem was with cubic .otf files and some way of preserving the 
professionally generated hints on converting to .ttf which clearly is not 
possible.

Consider all these issues closed since there aren't any :)
