Just ignore it. It is a message produced by the standard cygwin install
script (not my script) and has absolutely no bearing on anything.

Er... why? And why do you think it comes from MinGW? I'm not sure ff
will run under MinGW, it expects cygwin.

Do you mean absolutely nothing happens? it just hangs the xterm without
producing a window or any message in the xterm?

I've never seen that behavior and can't imagine what might cause it.

If you get some kind of error message what is it? Perhaps the likeliest
explanation is that /usr/local/bin isn't in your path... try typing
/usr/local/bin/fontforge
