Subject: Trouble installing fontforge

I'm trying to install fontforge for the first time on a Windows XP
machine. I've followed the instructions at
http://fontforge.sourceforge.net/ms-install.html

When I run .doinstall I get the following output:
---------------------------
$ ./doinstall
/usr/bin/install -c -c .libs/libuninameslist.dll.a
/usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.dll.a
base_file=`basename ${file}`
dlpath=`/bin/sh 2>&1 -c '. .libs/'${base_file}'i;echo $dlname'`
dldir=/usr/local/lib/`dirname $dlpath`
test -d $dldir || mkdir -p $dldir
/usr/bin/install -c -c .libs/cyguninameslist-0.dll
$dldir/cyguninameslist-0.dll

chmod a+x $dldir/cyguninameslist-0.dll
/usr/bin/install -c -c .libs/libuninameslist.lai
/usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.la
/usr/bin/install -c -c .libs/libuninameslist.a
/usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.a
chmod 644 /usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.a
ranlib /usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.a
c:\MinGW\bin\ranlib.exe: '/usr/local/lib/libuninameslist.a': No such file

/usr/local/lib

If you ever happen to want to link against installed libraries
in a given directory, LIBDIR, you must either use libtool, and
specify the full pathname of the library, or use the `-LLIBDIR'
flag during linking and do at least one of the following:
- add LIBDIR to the `PATH' environment variable
during execution
- add LIBDIR to the `LD_RUN_PATH' environment variable
during linking
- use the `-LLIBDIR' linker flag

See any operating system documentation about shared libraries for
more information, such as the ld(1) and ld.so(8) manual pages.

I've no idea if this is correct or not. The use of ranlib from MinGW
looks suspicious.

When I try to start fontforge from the xterm with "fontforge - new",
nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Rob
