Pinpad support is a hot development issue. So first of all I guess you 
have to use a development snapshot to get some results (they may be 
better or not... ;)). The next question is what driver you are using. 
The PCSC reader interface in OpenSC do currently not support pinpads. I 
have had some successes with CT-API on Windows, just in case Kobil 
supplies a CT-API driver for Linux I'd burn to see wether CT-API works 
on Linux.
