Sorry for the long delay.

could you please try this and let me know
sed -e "s/xxx/yyy/g" testfile
will it work? I guess only gnu sed will read
from testfile and spit it to stdout, but
*bsd sed needs
sed -e "s/xxx/yyy/g" < testfile

I changed the svn trunk/ repository and will
create a release candidate soon. I hope that minor
change (etc/Makefile.am, the sed calls) will fix
your problem.
