> Your posting of late have taken on a particularly vicious tone ... True, but facts are - at the end of the day - still facts. Let's take a recent example: > Which Linux Distribution should I use for hercules? > I will be using OS/390 Versions 8,9, and 10. > (I have development agreement with IBM). > Processors: Dual Athlon MPs 2200+ I'm making two assumptions that I think are quite valid: a) "development agreement with IBM" means PID/PWD. b) "Dual Athlon" is not an IBM system. The (currently refered to as PWD) development system has NEVER been licensed to a non-IBM platform. Period. We all know that. It's very easy to verify from public sources and it's also stated in black and white on IBM's web site. No one except Peter Ward commented about the licensing issue. A few posts later: > My firm is an IBM development partner. > I am not aware of the details of the arrangement. > I know that it does included OS licences but I know it > does not stretch to free zSeries 900 :-). The Hercules group will _happily_ mislead this poor guy into thinking he can take this software (which looks like unreturned AD/CD sets - I assume the office has upgraded to z/OS 1.1 at least) and use it at home under the terms of his company's Partnerworld agreement. So who's going to put him right? Who's going to tell him that getting found out could - in the UK - result in a prison sentence, an unlimited fine, and the loss of his company's access to PWD? Not me - because I'm banned from that forum. And sure as hell not the Herculeans. So - is accusation of lying and deviousness justified? I think so. You (a collective 'you') are deceiving people into running quite incredible risks for reasons I cannot begin to divine. That such irresponsibility is tolerated by people who are otherwise well respected in the industry is, quite frankly, a source of considerable amazement. As I've pointed out (I've been dealing with these matters since 1978) IBM does not send out polite letters with little grumbles. It sends the FBI. Check out the Adirondack sting (I provided a link recently) or the Fujitsu business. Or ask Siemens about 3380 support. Think these were 'the big boys' and out of your league? Not with Intel performance where it is and where it's going. The case I've cited above is probably a 30 MIPS system - how much per month is an OS/390 software stack on 30 MIPS? Clue - it's seven figures over a year. The first you'll know will be a couple of polite guys in suits turning up at a WAVV or SHARE demo. With badges. ------------------------ Yahoo!
