When you say that you planned to use appt to display a forthcoming appointment but that this didn't work, do you mean planner-appt, or the appointment code that comes with Emacs in appt.el? If it is a problem with planner-appt, you'll need to give some more details. Is it the problem with cyclic entries that you mentioned before? And did you try what I suggested in an earlier post?
