typically indicates a tree-structured thing that is mostly hidden and
can be expanded for full viewing with a click. The fact that +div is not a
legal element name makes it less likely that this will be confused with a
fully-displayed element, and the <> show that it's the beginning of (a
folded version of) an XML element. If the color of the plus sign, or perhaps the
whole "tag", could be set to its own color, that would be useful for quick
navigation as well.
