Emacs.app 9.0-rc1 released: msg#00068emacs.macintosh.osx
Hi, The first release candidate for Emacs.app, the Cocoa-based port of unicode-2 GNU emacs CVS (perhaps emacs-23) is now available. http://emacs-app.sf.net/ Note, the binary package there lacks an Intel "Emacs" executable. If someone can send me one of these, or provide me with remote access to a Macintel, I can add this to the release. Thanks. New in this release are: - Major font handling upgrade: through use of Kenichi Handa's new "font backend" framework, fontsets are now supported and general font handling is improved. - Menus now follow the standard Emacs 21+ arrangement. - ns-option-modifier, ns-control-modifier, ns-function-modifier customization variables added (also supported in Preferences panel). - Recent X11 colors such as "dark red" added to Emacs.clr (remove ~/Library/Colors/Emacs.clr to pick up). (Thanks to Peter Dyballa.) Emacs.app is now essentially functionally complete. But there are two remaining areas for work: composite glyph rendering and menu option display. Development help on these is welcome. The other area for focus is improving the build process and making sure the non- self-contained option works correctly.
