I don't recall if there was any consensus on this, but since teTeX is being discontinued, it might better to install TeXLive instead (also available via i-Installer). 2/ Then you can edit things with aquamacs. This is an emacs version that comes with the latex commands built in. I think what you mean by that is that Aquamacs Emacs comes with AUCTeX installed, and calls it by default when one opens a LaTeX document. 3/ There is a previewer called Tecniscope, but it's a pain to get running, Just to offer a different experience: I myself found it utterly painless to install TeXniscope. A bit of configuration is required in order to enable source <-> preview sync, but the instructions in the Help document are short, clear and easy to follow. Alternatively, it is equally easy to set up TeXShop as one's previewer. so just stick with Preview.app [the default] Here I'd have to object. For previewing LaTeX documents, TeXniscope and TeXShop are significantly superior to Preview.app, as they will refresh dynamically whenever you compile your document -- Preview.app opens a new copy of itself every time you call it, leaving you either with previews of older versions cluttering your desktop or requiring you first to quit an older version before previewing an updated version. More critically still, TeXniscope and TeXShop both support the indispensable feature of source <-> preview searching, which Preview.app does not -- a complete dealbreaker for Preview.app, IMO. (Actually, I'm not sure if TeXShop supports source --> preview searching if one is using an external editor...anyone?) 4/ I've always had problems getting flyspell to run. So the following works: Open up your x-windows application fink and download and install ispell. Alternatively, use MacPorts (formerly DarwinPorts), a Fink alternative that some users prefer.
