Well, on OS X these files will be hidden, so I don't think the clutter problem is a big deal. It might be that Carbon Emacs Package depends on the initial value of HOME, and then Easymacs gets another, and that causes the problem. At the moment, I do not have access to a Mac machine to do any testing, so unfortunately I cannot investigate the problem. If I understand correctly, Easymacs loads without errors when you do not change the value of HOME. So at the moment I would say you'll have to tolerate that limitation.
