HEAL Update: msg#00494education.libraries.medlib
Please excuse cross-postings. *News from HEAL, the Health Education Assets Library* Pledge of long term support for HEAL ~~The HEAL co-directors are delighted to report that University of Utah Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library Director Wayne J. Peay has committed to ongoing funding for core HEAL operations, including programming and cataloging support, as well as maintenance of the HEAL servers. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HEAL and Slice of Life alliance ~~We are also pleased to announce a formal partnership between HEAL and Slice of Life, an annual meeting of users and developers of technology to support health sciences education. This partnership brings together those wanting to create, evaluate, distribute, and implement the use of new media with those who want to share their materials for nonprofit use. This is most appropriate because Slice of Life has an international focus on promoting worldwide free access to high quality health sciences educational resources. HEAL has provided a place for "Slicers" and many others to share their materials. Please visit the Slice of Life Meeting 2006 website at http://slice.utah.edu/. And consider submitting an abstract for the program (deadline Feb. 1, 2006). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ NeuroLogic Exam and PediNeuroLogic Exam accessible through Google Video ~~In partnership with Google, HEAL has made 180 videos from the NeuroLogic Exam: An Anatomical Approach and PediNeuroLogic Exam: A Neurodevelopmental Approach collections developed by Dr. Paul Larsen and Dr. Suzanne Stensaas available via the new Google Video initiative. Free streaming versions of the videos are provided, with a link back to HEAL for additional information on downloading files. NeuroLogic Exam was supported by a grant from the Slice of Life Development Fund at the University of Utah, the Department of Pediatrics and the Office of Education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The PediNeuroLogic Exam video segments illustrate the importance of neurodevelopmental milestones in neurologic assessment of newborns through two-and-a-half year olds and builds upon the classic NeuroLogic Exam program. Visit http://video.google.com/ and search ?health education assets library? to see the records. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ About HEAL The Health Education Assets Library (HEAL), at http://www.healcentral.org, is a digital library of 20,000 freely accessible multimedia teaching materials for the health sciences. As a non-commercial collaborative partnership, HEAL provides materials of the highest quality that meet the needs of today's health sciences educators and learners. There are currently over 4,400 registered users of HEAL. HEAL is made possible by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Library of Medicine. Sharon Dennis, M.S., from the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah, and Sebastian Uijtdehaage, Ph.D., from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, are the co-directors of the project.
