Subject: Summary: Consumer Health Libraries in Hospitals

Thank you to those who responded to my questions regarding consumer health
libraries in hospitals. Here are my original questions followed by a summary
of the answers I received as of today, Jan. 30th...

1. Is your consumer health library within the medical library or is it a
separate entity?
2. What kind of staffing do you have if it is a separate entity?
3. Do you have all types of materials eg: books, magazines, videos, CD-ROMs,
DVDs, etc.?
4. If so, do you have the equipment necessary to use these materials?
5. Do you allow check out of materials or is it strictly in library use?

-11 said their consumer health library was within the existing medical library;
9 said it is a separate entity
-staffing varied from 12 saying staffing was shared between the medical and
consumer health libraries; 5 had separate staffing for the consumer library and
2 used volunteers
-18 provided all types of materials; 2 had books only
-12 allowed check out of materials, usually for 2 weeks; 4 did not allow check
out and 1 limited check out to hospital employees only.

Thanks again to those who responded. Feel free to contact me if you have any
questions...
