-----Original Message----- From: Holtum, Edwin A Sent: Monday, January 30, 2006 9:31 AM Subject: Sad News We have some very sad news to share with you. Jean Sayre, our Associate University Librarian and Director of the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences, died Saturday night at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. As many of you know, she had been diagnosed December 2004 with stage four cancer which she fought bravely for over a year. Her three brothers and a sister-in-law were able to see her before she died. Hope Barton from the Hardin Library and Nancy Baker, University Librarian, also had the opportunity to talk with Jean on Saturday and her family was gracious enough to permit them to hold vigil with them until she died. Jean did a terrific job as the Director of Hardin and was an invaluable part of the University Libraries administration. She also provided strong leadership in her previous positions, most notably as Associate Director of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, Greater Midwest Region. Jean was a close personal friend and mentor to numerous colleagues around the country. A memorial service is being planned for late February on the University of Iowa campus. Our condolences to her husband and family, her many friend, and to all of those she touched during her life. Ed Holtum, (on behalf of the Hardin Library for the Health Sciences and the University of Iowa Libraries.) |
