I don't know that I have better ideas, but I was thinking it would be
good if Emilda could meet the Minimal Level Requirements (listed in the
second column) at:
http://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/nlr/
I think this is already possible with 010 and higher.
Regarding 008, Minimal Level Requirements indicate support for the
following (my suggestions in parens):
008-All material types
00-05 Date entered on file (populated automatically)
35-37 Language (drop down, perhaps from config list)
39 Cataloging source (automatic population from config)
(For minimal support of the following, perhaps a drop down of each
material type would determine the contents of a second drop down. For
instance, selection of "Maps" in the first drop down would populate a
second drop down with "a,b,c,d,e,f,g,u,z,|" and default to "|". If
"Books" were selected in the first drop down, nothing would appear in
the second drop down.)
008-Maps
25 Type of cartographic material
008-Music
20 Format of music
008-Continuing resources
34 Entry convention
008-Visual materials
33 Type of visual material
(All other positions not specified above would be populated with "|"
otherwise known as "fill character".)
Based on the above, all that need be present on the screen for minimal 008
population is the following three drop downs:
* Drop down containing Language Codes (or subset thereof)
* Drop down containing Material Types
* Drop down containing selections based selected Material Type
