There indeed is no need to panic, at least not too much.
If I'm not guessing totally wrong, You installed DBD::MySQL when You had
version 4.0 of MySQL installed. This means that the Perl MySQL client
was compiled against MySQL 4.0, which is the key here.
What You need to do is to recompile (reinstall) the DBD::MySQL module,
which should solve the problems. If You have performed these procedures
and You still get the errors, this is probably because You created the
Emilda-table using 4.0, and now You are using the same table under 4.1.
This will cause authentication issues, and You can find more information

If there is nothing incredibly vital in Your MySQL table, I would
suggest to drop all tables and recreate them now that You have version
4.1 installed.
