HI Chris
when trying to access
http://www.usefulutilities.com/basic/
to find out about "HTTP Basic" authentication, as you
suggested in this email, i get
You don't have permission to access /basic/index.html on this
server.
Is this page still available?
thanks

EZproxy is designed to work best
with IP authentication. The following describes a new facility in
EZproxy to script username/password information to access
databases. Please be aware that this format
prevents the easy creation of inward linking from ERMS systems such as
Serials Solutions, since the link to JAMA is not used for
access.
Question #1: ls this
config stanza correctly composed?
T JAMA
U
http://jama.ama-assn.org
V username:password (I realize I have to put our specific
username and
password)
HJ jama.ama-assn.org
DJ jama.ama-assn.org
This is not correct and won't work. The Validate (V) lines only
work when a database vendor uses "HTTP Basic"
authentication. To see the form of user authentication I am
mentioning, browse to:
http://www.usefulutilities.com/basic/
You will see a username/password pop up, but this is something defined at
the browser level. Some database vendor use a pop up web page that
looks similar, so it can be confusing to distinguish these if you aren't
accustomed to looking at the different forms of authentication.
The JAMA login is based on a web form that they created. When a
vendor has their own form, where you clearly see a nice, formatted web
page asking for information, Validate (V) will not do anything.
Question #2: Can I create
a config stanza with 3 V lines, each with a
different username and password? Is EZ-Proxy smart enough to keep
track of
what username is currently in use?
EZproxy is geared primarily at IP authentication. It has limited
ability to support username/password authentication, but does not have
any ability to track which passwords have been issued.
EZproxy 3.4 has a new feature that allows you to dissect vendor login
forms and create "database definitions" for access.
Without an actual username/password, I can't test the following,
but
Title JAMA
URL -form=post jama
https://publogin.ama-assn.org/cgi/login
FormVariable normal_login=yes
FormVariable redirect_path=
FormVariable redirect_query=
FormVariable uri=http://jama.ama-assn.org/
FormVariable username=(someusername)
FormVariable signin=Sign In
FormVariable code=(somepassword)
In the example, you need to replace (someusername) with your username and
(somepassword) with your password. In the URL line, the
"jama" that appears between "-form=post" and
https://... is a reference to
this definition that you use to construct the starting point URL, which
in this case would look like:
http://ezproxy.yourlib.org:2048/login/jama
You can create 3 such entries, and perhaps name them jama1, jama2, and
jama3, with the three separate entries.
