Re: oral assessment: msg#00139education.english.teflchina.general
I am teaching Oral for the first time this year and am going to adapt my marking criteria to the IELTS bands, I have a copy of that they look for and just work against this. I think I will be teaching grade 1 (still haven't been told!)and because they're still 'young' learners I will only test them individually, ie. a class of 30 will take about 5 hours to do. I plan on recording them during testing and double checking the results later (I will also mark during their exam). Probably a lot of work (will take a week if I have say 8 classes) but I refuse to do them at this stage in a group or even in pairs as I think the weaker ones will 'play off' the more advanced students. I only hope this works!
