Mert, you asked Nelson what pronunciation he teaches
and then provide little in response yourself other
than the above with a very big "as long as"
qualification included. I'm English, don't sound
anything like Winston Churchill and teach classes
where the majority of my students are young female
students. These students do not end up sounding like
me nor have the British RP accent you admonish. but I
can confidently say that they meet your criteria of
being able to be understood, by anyone. I use the
Jones system of IPA as it's the one I know best but I
do not correct Americanisms or the like as British
English since the GIs were stationed in England in
WWII is full fo them anyway. I wrote "no worries" in
an email last semester and was asked if I was
Australian, I'm British but liked the phrase I had
heard in Australian soap operas on TV so use it now
myself. The focus on one kind of accent, while natural
on the part of the teacher perhaps, is not so
important, comprehensiblity is all, innit?
