Re: Re: Pronunciation: msg#00080education.english.teflchina.general
Nelson Bank says that he teaches pronunciation. But the question left unanswered is what pronunciation he teaches. For years Brits pushed RP (received pronunciation) even though almost no one in the UK used RP. Today even the BBC has given up on RP. The Yanks pushed Midwestern which became the norm for Hollywood (except for oaters and such). The Aussis even went so far as to publish the Macquarie Dictionnary with their own brand (Stryne). But now-a-days with English in the role of the world's IAL (international auxilliary languge) the are more people speaking English who are not from these three countries than who are from them. When the President of France, Jacques Chirac, speaks to the Chancellor of Germany, what is his English accent? My assessment is a French accent over an American regionalism. What pronunciation do you teach? Mert __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
