This is true of course Dick but at what level of
learning do we then demonstrate the differences? I did
a little of this last semester with sophomore
translation majors at the Normal uni where I teach
introducing weak forms for the first time and it took
weeks to get them to go beyond very careful, and often
erroneous, pronunciation as found in the dictionaries
to something approaching a more natural rhythm and a
more authentic non-Chinese student sound. We largely
did get there though...
