You can use English phonemics with characters from the
IPA. Otherwise you get into a Truspel situation that
creates more confusion than it solves.
I'm writing a paper on a 36-character phonemic
alphabet of English I will be glad to share. Most of
the characters are from the English alphabet, but for
the sounds like the 'th's I have to use IPA
characters. I have a character for the 'uh' in 'luck'
(the schwa) and for the 'eu' (French 'eu') in book (an
inverted v, like the symbol you sometimes see in
dictionaries in China for /a/ (ah).
