Subject: Re: Chinese learning English

Not being American but British, I looked up the
pronunciation for "business" in the Merriam Webster
online dictionary as my pronunciation accords with
Dick's. It said there that you can say /bizniz/ or
/biznis/ but again the "i" in the word was NOT
pronounced.
I use IPA in lessons before as I have mentioned before
and I wonder if Ria did what I have done in the past
on occasion and made the mistake of putting the
pronunciation of the word into symbols by reading
silently rather than speaking aloud, perfectly
understandable but a warning that we have to be
careful with even the simplest of words when we are
explaining pronunciation, especially in a way when we
can't actually hear the result.
