Subject: Re: [Fwd: Ctrl-^]

Hi Guys,

Ctrl-6 NEVER worked on a mac :-(

I'm not sure why, but from what I was told "waaay back then" was that the keyboard drivers simply don't understand that combination.
Things may be different in cocoa, but at least in OS-8 and OS-9 there was no known way.

Strangely though, the following map provides a "close alternative".

map <S-C-6> <ESC>:w!<CR>:e#<CR>

Good luck though - maybe things have changed enough on the mac platform to allow ctrl-6 again.

Cheers,

Steve

Hi,

Ctrl-^ and Ctrl-6 don't switch to the alternate buffer, as they do in the Windows and Linux binaries.

can you check if this worked prior to 7.0.138 (I guess it didn't, but it'd be nice to know)? I'll take a look.

Where would I find such binaries? I don't see older Tiger binaries except for Vim 6.4 on the website.

Many years ago, when I was the maintainer of the Win32 ports of Vim, I made Vim accept Ctrl-6 as a synonym for Ctrl-^ (Ctrl+Shift+6 on US keyboards). This behavior must have been propagated into the gtk version of gvim at some point. Now it's deep in my muscle memory and I get frustrated at having to type ":b #" or ":e #" instead.

The biggest mistake is not learning from all your other mistakes.
