Subject: Re: EditPlus forum instead of here? - msg#00146
List: editors.editplus.general
I agree with all your points. However, there is one very critical
thing against the forum: because this list is not very busy, it
follows that the forum won't be very busy either. If the forum isn't
busy, then I won't visit it every day, until eventually I will stop
visiting it altogether. The success of the list depends on people
being here to respond to others' questions. The forum would die off
pretty quickly I suspect.
Here is my suggestion for getting around Yahoo Groups: get a gmail
account (I have invites if you don't already have one) and subscribe
to the list. Gmail's threading is excellent, and I have a rule that
assigns a Label to all the EditPlus mail and archives it so it doesn't
clutter up my Inbox. Works very well.
Ideally, I would love to see the list move off Yahoo Groups (they are
horrible). I would suggest Google Groups
( http://groups-beta.google.com/group/EditPlus) which has a pretty good
interface, excellent track-record, and you get the best search engine
built-in.
Just my $0.02.

EditPlus forum instead of here?
Hi,
I don't understand why everyone doesn't migrate over to the EditPlus
forum here:
http://www.machak.com/editplus/
Yahoo groups functionality is poor at best, and as a result, I really
can't stand visiting yahoo groups. As I see it, here are the
advantages to the forum I linked(which I have no personal interest
in):
1)It's easier to read the posts, and the active messages automatically
move to the top.
2)It's easier to post messages--I always have trouble finding the post
message button here. Usually, it's because I'm in yahoo using a
different id, and then I come to the group, and yahoo fails to tell me
I'm not logged in to the group, and I spend a long time hunting around
for the post message button to no avail. That is so aggravating!
3)There is no annoying advertising that you have to click through to
get to the posts.
4)You can very easily search old posts.
5)There are multiple forum categories, so you can post .stx files or
.acp files that someone else might find useful in a separate forum
category.
6)Members can PM(private message) other members.
7)Someone is kind enough to host it for us, so it's free.

Sorry to reply to myself, I just thought I would add my EditPlus rule
from Gmail:
Matches: editplus-hHKSG33TihhbjbujkaE4pw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Do this: Skip Inbox, Apply label "EditPlus"
