Hello,
Card: orinoco-usb, variant-1 (with pcmcia inside), firmware 8.72.
OS: Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary, kernel 2.6.10 (custom compilation). To enable
support for orinoco-usb work you MUST disable "tmpfs".
Drivers: latest orinoco-cvs branch. Simply compile, put firmware to
/lib/hotplug/firmware and orinoco-usb will work.
Kismet: you must DISABLE channel hoping (with channel hoping this
card freezes) and then set "initial channel" back of "source"
directive (read kismet manual).
Start kismet, it will work in monitor mode monitoring choosen
channel. Unfortunately, my card freezes after about 15 minutes of
monitoring... But 15 minutes is quite good for passive scanning with
kismet :-) Unfortunately, to scan all channels you must close
kismet, change initial channel and then unplug orinoco-usb and
RESTART Linux!
Now, I will try to merge orinoco-usb (old version for 2.4 kernels)
with patched 0.13e drivers and try get it work on 2.4.27 kernel.
If it will work, I will try to port it on 2.6.x platform :-)
I must add, that from 7.x and 8.x firmwares, 8.72 is ONLY working
with Kismet for me. Any 7.x firmwares (I tested it before I
upgraded) didn't see anything in monitor mode on my orinoco-usb
card.
