Please don't reignite this flamewar again. It was discussed in the list
already. Also, there is no need to copy your e-mail to personal
addresses. You may get more attention initially, but you can end up in
a killfile if you abuse cc: for topics that don't need immediate
personal attention of the maintainers.

Because there is no standard for it.

The patches don't "restore" anything. This code was never in the
driver, only in non-official patches floating around.
If somebody wants this functionality, the patch should be submitted to
the developers. Also, it's very desirable that the format of the
additional data is standardized in a hardware independent form.
Alternatively, I want to hear why such standard is impossible or
impractical.
I have no time to discuss it again, so unless new arguments or new code
is presented, don't expect me to participate in further discussion on
this topic.
