For example Lucent/Agere/Proxim completely abandon making firmware
updaters some time ago, because now firmware is included in windows
driver. The newest firmware is 9.42 in drivers for agere site:

http://www.agere.com/mobility/wireless_lan_drivers.html

So, independly of firmware in flash memory, card is using the newest
drivers. Maybe 9.42 firmware inludes better possibility for monitor
mode? Or even for usual work? If no, I will can for example easily use
any 6.x or 7.x firmware without flashing.

Probably this way of firmware download from external file isn't very
complicated - it is included in linux-wlan-ng from the very early
stages. So, orinoco drivers using external firmware will be very
appeciated :-)
