OK; that computer should work OK w/ a USRP1.

By "did work" do you mean that you have successfully use GNU Radio and  
USRP1 together, e.g., usrp_fft?  Or do you mean something else?

If you execute 'usrp_print_db.py' what's returned (if anything)?

Strange; maybe others have insight?  This has never happened to me.
