Does sudo not use a daemon as well as fakeroot? I will post my
question to the cygwin list. But maybe the easier is do to the passwd
trick as well.
sudo is like su, only it asks you for your password instead of root's,
and it is used to run one command as root, instead of just opening a
shell as root. fakeroot was designed to be a drop in replacement for
sudo for things that required root, but didn't really require root,
like building debian packages.
if fakeroot isn't ported yet, then instead of `dpkg-buildpackage
-rfakeroot` use `dpkg-buildpackage -rsudo`
