Subject: Bug#240509: slapd: This bug really deserves to be
more than a 'wishlist' item
Followup-For: Bug #240509
This bug really deserves to be more than just a 'wishlist' item. The
fact that slapd starts with an essentially corrupted database without
a peep let alone an error message can lead to a very nasty situation
where half your system is behaving in unpredicable ways and the
admin is left with no clues as to what is causing it.
I know this has cost a collegue of mine two-three days to figure out and
fix on his system; Had he not done so, it might have been 2-3 days on our
companies' mission critical server instead. (power failure coupled with
UPS failure - it happens)
Please try to make slapd fail to start with an error message at a minimum;
Then the administrator has at least an idea of what is going on with his
"Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes."
